As we approach winter and this last quarter, now is a great time to review all of your insurance policies.  We know, “you’ll get to it”.  But, consider this.  Most of us don’t really read the fine print until we have to.  By then, it’s too late and too late to change your policy if you happen to find out short-comings in your insurance policy.  Review before you need it.  Review all conditions and deductibles pertaining to each individual insurance policy you have.  Each policy is different and what you thought was adequate 2 years ago, may not be today.  Home prices are rising in Illinois and with that comes necessary coverages to protect your home with increased insurance.  Remember, insurance is based on the cost to rebuild your home, not what the market value is of your house.  If you want to adequately protect your home against a natural disaster, the best way would be to call your insurance agent, schedule an appointment and have a face-to-face with him or her to go over every element of your insurance coverages.  Then and really only really then will you know if you are protected against the unexpected.

Your insurance agent may not have as much skin in the game as you do and that makes sense in a general sense but your insurance agent is obligated to present all coverages to you and what they mean.  If you don’t feel that you are getting the time needed to do this, maybe it’s time to find another insurance agent.

A local insurance agent doesn’t mean he’s small and unknowledgeable.  It may mean that he or she is committed to you and your community and is in it for long-haul-being there when you most need them and only a short drive away to meet with.  To many, that means a lot.  We find, in general that it does mean a lot.

Some insurance companies-full-service insurance companies also provide additional services.  Planning for retirement under one company can also have its advantages.  Knowing your short-term goals through to long-term planning puts you in the driver seat and can give you an advantage when working with your insurance agent.

Insurance policy reviews once a year are recommended.  The world is changing and becoming much smaller.  What wasn’t a concern a year ago, may be a bigger one for you today.  Ask questions and ask some more.  You’re investing in your future well-being and your insurance agent should be there when you need them most.
